A proposed Connemara estate masterplan that would weave together the estate's extraordinary natural assets — the Owenmore River, ancient oak woodland, blanket bog, and glacial mountain — into a single, ecologically coherent landscape. The design would create a network of restored habitats and sensitive visitor routes that allow guests to experience one of the most dramatic landscapes in the west of Ireland without compromising its wildness.
Our Approach
The Owenmore is one of the finest salmon rivers in Ireland, and its health would underpin the entire estate ecosystem. We would work with fisheries ecologists to stabilise eroding river banks using live willow and coir rolls, opening up riparian corridors of native alder and willow. On the higher ground, degraded bog would be rehabilitated through drain blocking and sphagnum introduction, reconnecting the estate's moorland with the surrounding Connemara National Park.
