Sandymount Coastal Garden

A proposed wind-tolerant native garden steps from the sea, designed to thrive in the salt-laden coastal air of Dublin Bay. Every species would be selected for its resilience to Atlantic exposure and its value to pollinators — from coastal grasses and sea thrift to native willowherb and ox-eye daisy. The garden would be alive with insects from early spring through late autumn.

Our Approach

Soil analysis would reveal heavily compacted, nutrient-poor ground — ideal, in fact, for the native coastal flora we would introduce. We would work with the existing conditions rather than against them, adding only locally sourced sand and mycorrhizal inoculants to encourage root establishment. The planting plan would be designed in drifts that echo the natural rhythm of coastal vegetation.
